Luka Modric Extends Real Madrid Contract

BEVERLY HILLS, May 25, (THEWILL) – The brilliant and gifted Croatian midfielder maestro Luka Modric has put pen to paperto sign a contract extension at La Liga giants Real Madrid, which will keep him at the Madrid club until June 30, 2022, at the very least.

All negotiations and agreements were reached about three months ago with the 35-year-old’s previous deal set to expire in the summer. The club simply waited for the end of the season to make it public.

The one-year extension is in strict conformity with Real’s contract policy of offering players over 30 years of age, one-year deals only but keeping Modric around has been one of the top priorities this season. His age notwithstanding, Modric still excels at the highest level, and has formed an excellent midfield trio alongside Toni Kroos and Casemiro.

He featured in 48 games for Los Blancos in all competitions in the just concluded season, where he stood out again as one of Zinedine Zidane’s most important players, accumulating 3,721 minutes that were significant to the team’s revival and late run to the title.

In his reaction to the announcement, Modric noted his joy at being offered a new contract via his official social media account: “Happy and proud to continue wearing the shirt of the best club in the world.”

It offers the Croatian the potential to return to play at the renovated Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, their stomping grounds of many victories and, perhaps, to finish his career at the Bernabeu.
