February 01, (THEWILL) – Liverpool’s hopes of landing Fulham prodigy Fabio Carvalho in January have crumbled at the last minute.
With just over an hour till Monday’s transfer deadline, the Reds agreed to sign the kid from the Cottagers, with paperwork and a physical still to be completed. However, they were unable to reach an agreement in time, and the plan was abandoned.
Liverpool had hoped to reach an agreement with Fulham this window in order to avoid having to pay a tribunal fee when Carvalho’s contract expired at the end of the season.
Even if Liverpool has not been able to formally sign him this window, they still have plenty of time to do so before the summer.
Late in January, Jurgen Klopp’s side sprung into life, beating Tottenham to the signing of Porto winger Luis Diaz before moving forward with a deal for Carvalho. Unfortunately, it was too little too late for this latter deal.
