July 02, (THEWILL) – Liverpool have completed the signing of Hungarian midfielder, Dominik Szoboszlai, from RB Leipzig in a deal worth £60 million, pending the issuance of a work permit.

The 22-year-old international has agreed to a five-year contract with the Reds in an acquisition that marks Liverpool’s second midfield reinforcement this summer, following the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for £35 million. Manager, Jurgen Klopp, sees Szoboszlai as a versatile player with tactical flexibility, akin to their previous star from Red Bull Salzburg.

Negotiations between Liverpool and Szoboszlai’s representatives progressed rapidly after discussions earlier this week, taking advantage of an expiring release clause triggered by the Reds just in time. The club identified the young Hungarian as a more viable option compared to Chelsea’s Mason Mount, as talks with Mount proved more complicated, and the player expressed a preference for Manchester United.

Szoboszlai’s age and straightforward negotiations made him an attractive prospect for Liverpool. Expressing his excitement, Szoboszlai posted: “The last three or four days went really long; it was not that easy. But at the end, I’m here, I’m happy, and I can’t wait to get started. It’s a really historic club, really good players, good coach, everything is good. For me, it was perfect to make the next step in a club like this. The fans, the stadium, everything is really good.”
