August 11, (THEWILL) – Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement with Brighton and Hove Albion to sign midfielder Moises Caicedo for £110 million ($140 million), according to media reports monitored by THEWILL on Friday.
The 21-year-old Ecuador international had been a top target for Chelsea during the January transfer window, but Brighton held firm on their valuation of over £100 million for the young star. Liverpool moved quickly to secure Caicedo’s services as they look to revamp their midfield following the departures of veterans Jordan Henderson and Fabinho. The fee would set a new British transfer record.
Caicedo joined Brighton in 2021 from Independiente del Valle in Ecuador for just £4 million. His rapid rise over the past two seasons has been remarkable, earning him the nickname “The Best Caicedo in the World” from Seagulls fans. Reuniting with World Cup winner, Alexis Mac Allister, who moved to Anfield in June, will also aid Caicedo’s transition to Merseyside.
The reported British record fee would surpass the £107 million Chelsea paid Benfica for Enzo Fernandez last month. It represents yet another massive return on investment for Brighton, who have become renowned for buying low and selling high in recent seasons.
Securing Caicedo’s signature is a statement of intent by Liverpool, as the English Premier League giants look to reinforce their squad and compete for major honours again next season. The talented Ecuadorian will provide energy, skill and defensive solidity in the middle of the park for the Anfield club.
