August 08, (THEWILL) – Barcelona defeated Pumas 6-0 on Sunday, at the Gamper Trophy in front of their adoring fans at the Camp Nou, giving them a taste of what to expect from the Catalan squad this season.
Polish striker, Robert Lewandowski, did not take long for a first goal. He rounded the goalkeeper on the second minute and squeezed the ball home from a sharp angle. Two minutes later, he assisted Pedri, who also outran the goalkeeper and tapped the ball into an empty net.
Barcelona were three goals up by the 10th minute. Raphinha cut the ball back to Ousmane Dembele on the right, and he slammed it into the bottom corner. It was 4-0 after 18 minutes as Pedri scored for his second of the match.
Franck Kessie and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were introduced after the interval and on 48 minutes, the pair combined for Aubameyang to make it 5-0. There was still time for one more and it came through Frenkie de Jong, who stole the ball in a good position before calmly scoring the sixth.
Xavi may not want to get carried away by the margin of victory and the fact that they were lifting the Gamper Trophy for the 10th consecutive time, but it was undoubtedly a perfect way to close preseason, giving the supporters hope for the future and getting the squad in the best shape to challenge in Spain and across Europe.
