Lewandowski Gives Poland World Cup Ticket Against Ibrahimovic’s Sweden

March 30, (THEWILL) – Poland beat Sweden to secure a place in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, courtesy of a penalty by Robert Lewandowski.

Lewandowski’s penalty in the 49th minute, which he coolly converted, after Grzegorz Krychowiak was hacked down in the box, was his 75th international goal, putting him in third place among European goal scorers.

Piotr Zielinski put the game to bed in the 72nd minute, capitalising on some sloppy Swedish defending to score.

While Sweden dominated possession for the majority of the game, Poland appeared to be the more likely to score throughout the tie, and looked at ease after Lewa’s first goal.

The outcome almost certainly means that Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic will never play in another World Cup. Ibrahimovic will retire from international football as Sweden’s all-time leading scorer, with 62 goals in 120 appearances.
