February 10, (THEWILL) – Daniel Levy, the chairman of Tottenham Hotspur, has addressed concerns over the club’s transfer policy, acknowledging that mistakes were made in the past.

Despite an increase in total revenue for the year ending June 2022, Spurs have faced criticism for their lack of silverware despite spending over £500 million since April 2019.

Levy spoke out this week, defending his work and stating, “Our spend levels show we have invested in the team. However, we walk a fine line between long-term investment and short-termism. This is why our recruitment must be first class as mistakes at this level have a financial and sporting impact for future seasons.”

In recent seasons, Tottenham has signed several high-priced players who have failed to live up to their expectations including Tanguy Ndombele and Moussa Sissoko. Ndombele, who broke the club’s spending record with a £55.45 million transfer, is now on loan at Napoli after struggling to make an impact in North London.

Levy stated that the club has taken steps to improve their operations and avoid such situations in the future: “We have taken steps to improve this area of operations, and we believe the recent transfer windows reflect this. Our aim has always been to combine the financial stability of the club with remaining competitive on the pitch. We have to do what is right for us and sustainable in the long term.”
