Lazio Manager Tudor Departs After Tumultuous Three-Month Stint

June 05, (THEWILL) – Croatian tactician, Igor Tudor, has severed ties with Serie A club, Lazio, after a mere three months in charge. The announcement came on Thursday, from the club, ending Tudor’s brief tenure marked by a solitary league defeat alongside five victories and three draws.

Despite guiding Lazio to a seventh-place finish and earning European qualification, tensions behind the scenes ultimately led to Tudor’s departure. The Italian press had speculated about the split earlier, citing disagreements between the former Juventus player and the club’s hierarchy over squad composition and transfer targets.

Notably, Tudor’s dissatisfaction with retaining French midfielder, Matteo Guendouzi, who joined from Marseille last season, emerged as a significant point of contention. Lazio, however, remained keen to keep the 24-year-old after his impressive debut campaign.

Speculation is rife regarding Tudor’s successor, with Gazzetta dello Sport suggesting Lazio’s interest in Marco Baroni, currently at Verona, and their former player, Sergio Conceicao, who recently parted ways with Porto.

The off-season promises a coaching carousel, with as many as 11 of the 20 Serie A clubs anticipated to make managerial changes. Napoli has already picked Antonio Conte, while Juventus and AC Milan are expected to appoint Thiago Motta and Paulo Fonseca, respectively, in the coming days.
