Late Substitute Kalajdzic Secures Win For Wolves Against Everton

August 26, (THEWILL) – Wolverhampton Wanderers picked up their first win of the English Premier League season with a 1-0 victory over Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Striker Sasa Kalajdzic, making just his third appearance for Wolves after recovering from a ruptured ACL, came off the bench in the 86th minute and scored the winner just two minutes later to stun the home crowd. It was a crushing defeat for Everton, who dominated the match but failed to find the back of the net. The Toffees had 15 shots compared to just one on target for Wolves, but Kalajdzic’s late goal condemned them to their third straight 1-0 loss to open the season.

Everton have yet to score a goal or earn a point through their first three matches. The mood at Goodison Park was sombre as fans streamed out having seen a similar performance two weeks ago against Fulham also end in a 1-0 defeat. Everton’s start is their worst since the 1990/1991 season. In contrast, Wolves supporters happily made their way home after securing three straight wins at Goodison for the first time.

Everton manager, Sean Dyche, was hoping some personnel changes would produce a better result, but in the end, it was the same story for the struggling Toffees. Despite controlling play and creating chances, they failed to capitalise while Wolves scored on their only real opportunity to grab the three points.

Everton will look to regroup and search for their first win and points of the current campaign when they take on Doncaster on Wednesday, in the EFL Cup. Wolves will try to build on the momentum from their victory when they host Blackpool the day before.
