December 20, (THEWILL) – A late brace from substitute Terem Moffi was enough to settle a tight contest between OGC Nice and RC Lens in the final Ligue 1 match before the winter break. The game at Allianz Riviera was delayed due to smoke from fireworks set off by home fans, but once underway both sides struggled to create clear openings in a cagey first half.
The second period brought more entertainment as Nice’s Hicham Boudaoui and Jérémie Boga, combined well to threaten the Lens defence. The away side came close when David da Costa’s free-kick struck the post with keeper Marcin Bułka, nearly putting it into his net. However, it took until the final 10 minutes for the deadlock to be broken after Salis Abdul Samed’s foul on Evann Guessand, allowed Moffi to convert a penalty.
Moffi then ensured victory breathtakingly, latching onto Boga’s chipped cross to head home his second. The result leaves Nice second in Ligue 1, five points behind Paris Saint-Germain, while Lens remain seventh after missing the chance to break into the top four.
Both sides will now pause for the winter break, returning to action in 2024 as they bid to build on their strong start to the Ligue 1 campaign when the season resumes in the new year.
