Late Dragusin Header Sees Inter Held To Draw By Genoa

December 30, (THEWILL) – Serie A leaders, Inter Milan, were held to a 1-1 draw away at Genoa on Friday night, failing to capitalise on the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the division. A late equaliser from the home side saw Inter drop points for only the fourth time this campaign.

The visitors took the lead in the 42nd minute courtesy of a Marko Arnautovic tap-in. However, Genoa responded right before halftime as Radu Dragusin powered home an equaliser to make it 1-1. Inter were unable to break through in the second period despite chances for Francesco Acerbi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The result leaves Inter five points clear of second-placed Juventus ahead of their clash with Roma on Saturday. Genoa remain in 13th position following the hard-fought draw. Inter manager Simone Inzaghi will be disappointed his side failed to take their chances with long periods of dominance throughout the match.

The game was suspended for eight minutes in the first half due to excessive pyrotechnics from the home supporters that left heavy smoke hanging over the pitch. Inter looked the stronger side for most of the match and will view this as two points dropped. Genoa deserve credit for fighting back just before half-time and then managing the game well in the second period.
