January 08, (THEWILL) – Inter Milan missed the opportunity to secure their fourth straight Serie A victory on Saturday, as Luca Caldirola’s late equaliser earned Monza a 2-2 draw at U-Power Stadium.
Inter got off to a strong start, with Matteo Darmian scoring in the 10th minute, but their lead was short-lived as Patrick Ciurria, equalised just a minute later with an exquisite curling finish.
Lautaro Martinez put Inter back in front in the second half, capitalizing on a defensive error to score his eighth league goal of the season. However, substitute Caldirola’s 93rd-minute header denied Inter the win and sparked jubilant celebrations from the hosts.
The result leaves Inter five points behind Serie A leaders Napoli, who are set to face Sampdoria on Sunday. Inter will host second-tier Parma in the Coppa Italia round of 16 on Tuesday, while Monza will travel to face struggling Cremonese in Serie A on Saturday.
