Late Balogun Equaliser Frustrates 10-Man PSG Against Reims

January 30, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain’s match at home against Reims ended in a frustrating 1-1 draw after an injury-time equaliser from Folarin Balogun.

Despite the Ligue 1 leaders appearing to be in control with a goal from Neymar, the game took a turn for the worse when Marco Verratti was sent off just 11 minutes after coming on as a substitute. PSG had plenty of chances, but Reims held on and eventually managed to secure the equalising goal.

The red card for Verratti was a result of a challenge that was initially judged to be a yellow card, but was overturned to a red by VAR. The referee also took a second look at a penalty awarded to Reims after Marquinhos fouled Balogun, but it was ruled offside.

Despite PSG’s star players creating opportunities, Reims continued to threaten and their persistence paid off with Balogun’s goal in injury time. The 1-1 draw sees PSG inch three points ahead of second-placed Lens at the top of Ligue 1, but it’s another disappointment for the club following their defeat to Rennes two weeks ago.

This result will be a confidence boost for Reims, who climb one place to 11th in the table and managed to hold their own against the league leaders. Despite the frustration for PSG, they will look to regroup and build on their lead at the top of the table in their next match against 14th place Montpellier.
