Lakers’ Basketballer Alex Caruso Arrested For Marijuana Possession In Texas, US

June 23, (THEWILL)- The police of the Texas A&M University arrested Alex Caruso, shooting and points guard for the Los Angeles Lakers and charged him with possession of marijuana, under two ounces, and possession of drug paraphernalia charges.

The jail records from the Brazos County in Texas reveal that the 27-year-old College Station brought-up was booked Tuesday and released later in the day for what was said to be residual marijuana left on a grinder.

According to Lieutenant Bobby Richardson of the Texas A&M Police Department, the arrest took place when Caruso tried to board a flight at McKinsey Airport, located on the A&M campus, around 2.00pm.

Lieutenant Richardson explained that the arrest was based on Caruso’s possession of a herb grinder that contained marijuana that was found when the officials of the Transportation and Security Administration searched the basketballer’s travel bags.

The Lakers’ player, was part of the team that won the National Basketball Association (NBA) championship with the Lakers last year, was born and raised in College Station and played college basketball there for Texas A&M before joining the NBA after earning second-team all-conference honors in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) as a senior in 2016.

Caruso was signed by the Lakers to a two-way contract in July 2017, and the 27-year-old has been with the franchise ever since, helping their title win with a season average of 6.5 points in 24.3 minutes per game in the playoffs for the Lakers.

Caruso’s is set to be an unrestricted free agent this summer having not penned a new deal after the July 6, two-year $5.5 million contract he signed in 2019.

There is as yet no official statement from the Lakers’ club for a reaction to the arrest and whether they will be issuing any penalties to the player for the arrest or if they will distance themselves from his personal misdemeanour.

The NBA also has not officially reacted.
