February 09, (THEWILL) – On Wednesday, the Lagos State Athletics Association (LASAA) hosted a press conference to launch its latest initiative, the Lagos Club Athletics Series.
The event also served as a platform to thank the athletes and coaches from the state, who took part in the recently concluded National Sports Festival (NSF). At the event, Solomon Ajao, the LASAA Chairman, thanked the athletes and coaches for representing Lagos State admirably.
He also emphasized that the association will continue to provide support to athletes despite the recent cancellations of athletic meets. He urged the athletes to stay away from performance-enhancing drugs and focus on their athletic careers.
The Lagos Club Athletics Series is a national competition open to all clubs in Nigeria, with over N10 million in cash prizes up for grabs at the end of the series. According to Nigeria’s Olympic gold medallist, Enefiok Udo-Obong, the competition is aimed at giving recognition to clubs and coaches and is set to change the face of athletics in Nigeria.
The first leg of the four-part series is scheduled to start on February 19, at the Yaba College of Technology sports centre. Athletics clubs from across the country and the Republic of Benin have expressed interest in participating in the competition.
