November 29, (THEWILL) – Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has expressed his grief over the death of the victims of Lafenwa Market Fire disaster caused as a result of a fallen petrol tanker explosion
Yesterday a petrol laden tanker while coming from Lafenwa-Rounda-Ayetoro road overturned and exploded resulting to the death of a grandmother and her grandchild
But, Abiodun while commiserating with the families of the victims in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, on Sunday, described their death as shocking.
He said the incident was a sad and unfortunate, lamenting incessant fire outbreaks caused by petrol tankers in recent times as he sympathised with those who lost their valuables to the inferno.
He noted that the Lanfenwa-Rounda-Ayetoro Road was redesigned and being rebuilt to avoid such sad occurrences adding that measures would be put in place to ensure fuel laden tankers and other articulated vehicles have no hindrance in navigating the road.
Abiodun also said that relevant agencies would be continuously engaged to ensure safety measures and certify the condition of heavy duty trucks, particularly petrol tankers.
He, therefore, prayed for repose of the soul of the dead and quick recovery for the injured, assuring that his government would continue to engender policies and programmes that will enhance public safety, protection of lives and property.
The governor added that he had directed the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to devise ways of ensuring safe navigation of petrol tankers and other trucks around the railway crossing at Lafenwa area to prevent future occurrence
