November 9, (THEWILL) – Aviation services at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, were disrupted on Thursday, as members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), blocked the entry and exit points of the airport, causing heavy traffic of vehicles on both sides.
The protest is part of a series of actions that the two labour unions say they will zero in on Imo State, following the attack on the NLC National President, Joe Ajaero.
Labour had directed aviation unions across the country to suspend all flights to Owerri, Imo State, from every airport in Nigeria.
In a determined effort to enforce the directive, members of organised labour marched toward the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja as early as 8:58 a.m, to stop all flights to Owerri, the Imo State capital.
While they were stopped by security operatives at the checkpoint preventing their access into the Airport, the protesters blocked the entry and exit points of the airport, causing heavy traffic of vehicles on both sides; forcing travellers to make their way into the airport on foot.
