February 17, (THEWILL) – LA Galaxy have announced the transfer of defender Julián Araujo, to FC Barcelona.
The deal includes a sell-on percentage of the transfer fee if Araujo is eventually sold to another club. This transfer marks a major milestone in Araujo’s career, who began his journey in the LA Galaxy Academy before excelling with the starting XI.
LA Galaxy Head Coach and Sporting Director, Greg Vanney, expressed his excitement about the transfer, saying, “As we continue to evolve as a club, we’re leaning heavily into the LA Galaxy Academy development side. We are going to help develop players, who can play at the biggest clubs in the world but can also help the LA Galaxy win championships. We wish Julián all the best in the next phase of his career.”
Araujo, who is only 21 years old, played a significant role in the LA Galaxy’s recent campaigns, tallying two goals and 20 assists in 108 games played across all competitions in four seasons with the team. He was a two-time MLS All-Star honoree, a two-time LA Galaxy Humanitarian of the Year, and was named a finalist for the MLS WORKS Humanitarian of the Year in 2021.
Araujo’s transfer to Barcelona was also announced by the Catalan club, which confirmed that he will join Barça Atlètic and that he was signed until June 30, 2026. He signed his contract on Friday, at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper alongside several officials from the club and will begin training with the team soon under the guidance of Rafa Márquez.
