September 10, (THEWILL) – September 10, (THEWILL) – The German Football Association (DFB) are considering Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, as one of their top candidates to take over as head coach of the German national team, according to reports monitored by THEWILL.
This comes after the DFB sacked current manager Hansi Flick following Germany’s recent disappointing performances, including their early exit from the 2022 World Cup. The 4-1 defeat to Japan was the final straw, ending Flick’s tenure after just 18 months in charge.
Sources suggest the DFB are keen to appoint a high-profile, proven manager ahead of Germany hosting Euro 2024 next summer. Klopp is said to be very high on their wishlist, with the DFB even willing to allow him to finish this season with Liverpool before taking the national job on a full-time basis.
When asked about the Germany job in the summer, Klopp spoke of his loyalty and commitment to Liverpool but did not rule out taking the role in future. Former Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel, is reportedly another name under consideration. As with Klopp, the DFB could let Tuchel see out the campaign with Bayern Munich first.
Both managers have Bundesliga experience and would be popular appointments with German fans. Yet, prising them away from their current English Premier League, Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League commitments could prove difficult.
