Klopp Admits Liverpool Wanted Tchouameni But Player Chose Real Madrid

September 01, (THEWILL) – Earlier in this transfer window, Liverpool tried to sign a midfielder, but he decided to join another team, according to revelations made by Reds’ manager, Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp said Liverpool are still in the market to sign a new midfielder before the deadline on Thursday and Aurelien Tchouameni was the main midfield target for Liverpool this summer. However, as THEWILL previously reported, he has since joined Real Madrid for a sum that could reach €90 million, when add-ons are factored in.

In his media appearance on Tuesday, ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League match against Newcastle, Klopp made reference to this failed transaction saying: “We were going for midfielder, but that midfielder decided to go to another club. That can happen. Some players are not available now, but for us really interesting. That’s how it is – so we can make that decision.”

The German manager stated that while it is ultimately not up to him, he would love Liverpool to take more chances in the summer market: “Let me say it like this, from time to time, I would like to risk a bit more [in the market] but I don’t decide that.

“We have a great team and we will really try to squeeze everything out of this season. I am not careful [with how much Liverpool spend], we get told what is possible and what isn’t.
