March 10, (THEWILL) – Jurgen Klopp has expressed his surprise following Roberto Firmino’s announcement that he would be leaving Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Brazilian forward has been a crucial part of the squad for eight years, and Klopp admitted that he will be sad to see him go. Speaking at a recent press conference ahead of the team’s game against Bournemouth, Klopp stated that Firmino had communicated his decision to him.

Klopp said: “Surprised? Yes, a little bit, but it’s a normal thing to do.” Klopp then praised Firmino’s contributions to the team and acknowledged the special relationship he had with the club, the players, and the fans.

Despite the news of Firmino’s departure, Klopp urged the Reds to maintain their focus in their final stretch of the season. With a real battle to secure a top-four spot, Klopp emphasised the importance of staying focused and not counting points before they were earned.

“We might fight for the Champions League spots – we will see how the results will be in the next few weeks – but the fight to stay in the league is as exciting”, he said.
