Keyamo, Najomo To Grace 13th NIGAV Awards

January 31, (THEWILL) – The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, will be leading heads of aviation agencies and other stakeholders to the 13th Nigeria Aviation Awards (NIGAV) and Ministerial Dinner.

This is just as the Acting Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Capt Chris Najomo, has assured of the organisation’s support for the NIGAV awards event.

A statement by the Chairman of NIGAV, Mr Fortune Idu, said necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the success of the event which will take place at the NIGAV centre, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, on Thursday, February 22, 2024, beginning from 2pm to 7pm

According to Idu, the NIGAV awards will feature the King and Queen competition and various awards categories.

He said the King and Queen of the Air awards were introduced because of the critical role they play in the sector.

Idu explained that, at this award, cabin attendants from different airlines are expected to compete to be crowned, coupled with a cash award.

According to him, the award is also an avenue to explain to passengers and non-passengers that the attendants were as important as the pilots, engineers and other personnel in air travel.

Idu said the industry was one of the most sensitive industries in Nigeria, so people who, in spite of the challenges and complexities are able to keep people flying, need to be recognised, rewarded and appreciated.

Already, Najomo had assured of the NCAA’s support for the NIGAV awards event. He gave the assurance when Idu paid him a visit to his office to brief him on the activities lined up for the 13th NIGAV awards.

With the seamless endorsement of the NIGAV award by the Acting Director General of the NCAA, the stage for the annual performance assessment and rewarding event is set.

“Nigav Centre will recognise the contribution made by both individuals and organisations in stirring the sector to success in the year 2023 despite the challenges which the industry has faced. Over 30 awards will be presented based on recommendations and a public vote,” Idu stated

He indicated that it was important for the NCAA to endorse the event and continue the effort of industry social integration.

The event, he said, has remarkably grown as the hallmark of the sector for rewarding excellent and inspiring healthy competition. This year’s event will include the king and queen of the contest which is sponsored by Santos Aviation.

The Acting DG was once a NiGAV recipient who excelled in piloting. This time, he will be crowning the King and Queen of the air in a cabin crew contest.
