August 14, (THEWILL) – Super Falcons forward, Uchenna Kanu, has launched a new foundation and website to empower and inspire young girls to pursue their dreams.
The foundation aims to provide opportunities for girls to maximise their potential through scholarships and mentorship programs. Its focus is on helping girls from underprivileged backgrounds overcome obstacles and social norms that may prevent them from chasing their aspirations. Kanu hopes to give back to her community by sponsoring talented young girls to study in the United States on athletic scholarships.
Kanu revealed details about the foundation and website in an Instagram post this week. She shared her own experiences growing up with limited opportunities as a girl interested in football. Despite pressure not to play the sport, Kanu persevered and became a role model for girls in her hometown.
The website will also feature Kanu’s insights and content from her experience playing for Nigeria at the recent 2023 Women’s World Cup. The 26-year-old striker appeared in all of Nigeria’s World Cup matches and scored a goal against Australia.
Kanu hopes to inspire more girls to believe in themselves and their talents through her foundation’s work. Through her efforts, she hopes to rewrite narratives and break down barriers facing young women with big dreams.
