Kano Secretariat Fire: We’re On Top Of The Situation – Police

December 13, (THEWILL) – The Kano State Police Command says it has restored law and order, following the burning of the Gwale Local Government Secretariat by arsonists, leading to destruction of properties.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Kano on Wednesday.

“Earlier this morning between 0500-0630hrs there was fire outbreak that torched three offices part of the Secretariat of the Local Government Council Headquarters which include; Community Development, Works and Audit Departments in which the cause is under investigation.

“In order to deter potential criminals around the area from taking advantage, the Police Command this morning, provided adequate security for the Chairman and the Local Government Council Headquarters without hitch.

“In addition, there were presence of other security officials including DSS and NSCDC since early morning. At this moment, the Area is calm while joint security operatives are currently providing the desired security

“Unfortunately, at about 1135hrs some faceless intruders made forceful entry into the Secretariat Complex and turned the place rowdy and begin pelting stones on everyone. Consequently, the Police used tear smoke and dispersed the intruders.

“In the overall, the situation is adequately under control as investigation into the immediate and remote causes of the incidences is ongoing,” the command said.

It advised residents of the state to remain calm “and be rest assured that the Police is on top of the situation and is fully prepared to deal with any person found constituting threat to national security.”

On the suspension of the Chairman of the council, Alhaji Ishaq Khalid Diso, by the State House of Assembly, the command
said the timeframe for the suspension “has elapsed today, Wednesday, 13th December, 2023 and there is subsisting Court order reinforcing that the Chairman resumes work accordingly.”

Meanwhile, Diso has said that the Council would investigate the circumstances surrounding the burning of the secretariat.

Addressing newsmen in Kano on Wednesday, Diso said he had been re-instated by the Court and vowed to resume work,”any moment from now.”

“My reinstatement has nothing to do with the burning down of about 17 offices and some vehicles at the Secretariat”, he said.
