Kano Pillars, Heartland Handed Fines, Warnings Over Unruly Fans

October 24, (THEWILL) – Nigerian club, Kano Pillars, have been handed a N1 million fine by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after their supporters invaded the pitch during a recent match. The incident occurred in the 92nd minute of Pillars’ game against Rivers United on Sunday, October 22 when fans jumped barriers to celebrate a late winning goal.

After reviewing reports from match officials, the NPFL charged Pillars with a breach of rules around pitch invasions. As a result, the club has 14 days to pay the fine or risk further sanctions. Pillars were also warned that any repeat offences would be considered a continuous breach of League rules.

In a separate incident, Heartland of Owerri received a stern warning from the NPFL over unruly fan behaviour. Reports indicate supporters held players and officials “hostage” after a recent match, only allowing them to leave when security arrived. The league described this as “unacceptable” and damaging to Heartland’s and the NPFL’s reputation.

Heartland has been instructed to organise an orientation for fans to promote fair play and avoid future disturbances. The club risks additional punishments if supporter misconduct continues.

The NPFL appears eager to crack down on unruly fan behaviour this season. With strict fines and warnings now issued, clubs like Pillars and Heartland will need to get supporters in line or face harsher penalties down the road.
