Kano Mosque Attack: Death Toll Rises To 21

May 30, (THEWILL) – The death toll from the recent arson attack on a Mosque in Gadan village, Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State, has risen to 21.

A 38-year-old man, Shafi’u Abubakar, had attacked the mosque with a petrol bomb during early morning prayers, killing scores of the worshippers instantly and injuring many others.

The motive behind the attack is believed to be a family conflict over inheritance distribution.

A total of 25 people were affected by the attack, many of whom were taken to the Murtala Muhammed Specialists Hospital, Kano, for treatment.

Alhaji Bature Abdul’aziz, who is the Chairman of Friends of the Hospital, said, “We have so far lost 21 persons and we are left with only four other patients in the hospital.”

Abdul’aziz disclosed this when he led some members of the Kano Business Community on a sympathy visit to the four remaining victims of the attack at the Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital, Kano.

He commended the management of the hospital, led by Dr. Husaini Muhammad, for taking good medical care of the victims.

Dr. Abdul’aziz, who is also the National President of the Patriotic Elders Forum, also commended the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin; Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu; APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the Kano State Government and many others for their donations to the victims.

He also thanked the Kano Business Community for donating N80,000 to each of the victims and N20,000 to so many other patients they met at the hospital.
