BEVERLY HILLS, September 17, (THEWILL) – Kannywood movie star, Yakubu Mohammed says he regrets featuring in the controversial Nollywood movie, Fatal Arrogance, that depicts the Shiites Islamic Movement in Nigeria as a terrorist group.

The yet to be released movie, which was filmed in Enugu, Eastern Nigeria, has generated so much controversy with the Islamic Movement sending a petition to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP and the Films and Censorship Board seeking to block the movie’s release.

THEWILL reports that the movie, which was produced by Anosike Orji and features Nollywood great, Pete Edochie, is about the clash between the military and Islamic movement in Zaria, Kaduna, a few years back, which led to the killing of several members of the group by troops and the arrest and detention of their leader, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky.

Mohammed told the BBC in an interview that he would pay the producer to delete or remake the scenes he was featured, saying he did not know the movie would portray the group in a bad light.

THEWILL has not been able to independently verify claims that the movie’s production was funded by the Nigerian army.

“I have told the producer to remove all my scenes in the movie, that I am ready to pay for damages, which is what the rule says.

“I never knew some of the scenes in the film will be portrayed in that manner. I only acted (in) my scenes, which I appeared six times in different places. In the film I was shot, and later died.

“It was a film that showed the clash between Nigerian Army and members of the Shiite movement in Zaria, and many members of the group were killed. When I read the script, I saw nothing castigating Islam in it, but you know script can change at some point, that was what happened,” he said.
