Kane Joins Up With England Squad Despite Ankle Worry

March 17, (THEWILL)- England captain Harry Kane has travelled to link up with the national squad despite sustaining an ankle injury during Bayern Munich’s 5-2 win at Darmstadt on Saturday. The 30-year-old striker was substituted late on after twisting his ankle in the goal netting, with Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel admitting concern over the issue post-match.

In an official statement on Sunday, Bayern confirmed Kane had injured his left ankle but would join up with England for assessment by the team doctors in close consultation with the German club’s medical staff. Gareth Southgate’s side face friendlies against Brazil and Belgium over the upcoming international break.

Despite the injury, Kane broke the record for most goals scored in a debut Bundesliga season by netting his 31st of the campaign against Darmstadt just before half-time. The former Tottenham talisman signalled his pride at the achievement on social media, stating: “Proud to break a Bundesliga record but more importantly another good win.”

Bayern Sporting Director, Christoph Freund, assured reporters that caution would be taken with Kane’s issue, stating: “He won’t take any risks.” As England’s record goalscorer with 62 strikes, his fitness will be paramount ahead of the upcoming UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers.
