BEVERLY HILLS, February 26, (THEWILL) – At least seven people were killed and 15 others injured following the violence that broke out in Kasuwa Magani village in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

This figure was confirmed by the Spokesman for the State Police Command, Mr Aliyu Mukhtar, who also said several houses were destroyed during the crisis.

THEWILL recalls that the clash was said to have erupted on Sunday between youths belonging to two different religious groups in the village which later snowballed into a crisis between the groups, leading to the burning of houses and destruction of other valuables in the area.

THEWILL gathered that the crisis was a result of a reported romantic relationship and eventual forceful conversion of some girls to a religion by some boys from another faith.

Reacting to the incident, the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has directed the prosecution of all persons responsible for the mayhem ordering security agencies to ensure all persons found culpable in the crisis are brought to book.

In a statement by his spokesman Samuel Aruwan, the governor asked them to thoroughly investigate the unfortunate incident, as well as arrest and prosecute the culprits.

“The governor has directed the State Emergency Management Agency to take inventory of damages and provide relief materials with immediate effect,” the statement read.

“Security forces have been deployed to contain the situation, protect lives and properties and to prevent any further breakdown of law and order.

“The government also urged all citizens and communities to reject violence, division and uphold their neighbours in peace and harmony.

“While the government condemns the violence, and regrets the wanton shattering of lives.

“He further disclosed that the government has expressed its sympathy to the victims and their families.”
