February 17, (THEWILL) – Juventus continued their struggles in Serie A on Saturday after being held to a 2-2 draw by relegation-battling Verona. The result marks four straight league matches without a victory for Juventus, leaving them nine points behind league-leading rivals Inter Milan, who have a game in hand.
Verona took a surprise early lead in the match through a spectacular 11th-minute volley by Michael Folorunsho. Juventus eventually equalised from the penalty spot courtesy of a Dusan Vlahovic conversion.
However, sloppy defending allowed Verona to retake the lead shortly after halftime via a composed Tijjani Noslin finish. Juventus displayed resilience though and pulled level for a second time minutes later through an Adrien Rabiot strike.
Both sides had chances to claim a winner in the closing stages but errant finishing kept the match deadlocked at 2-2. The draw means Inter Milan now have a comfortable cushion atop Serie A, while AC Milan can leapfrog Juventus into second position with a win on Sunday away at Monza.
Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri will surely be disappointed his side failed to capitalise on Inter Milan not playing this weekend. The once-dominant Bianconeri seem to still be finding their rhythm this campaign. They will need improved performances to remain in the Scudetto conversation moving forward.
