February 11, (THEWILL) – Juventus advanced to the Coppa Italia semi-finals with a 2-1 home win over Sassuolo on Thursday, courtesy of a late winner from Dusan Vlahovic.
At their home grounds of the Allianz Stadium, reigning champions Juventus got off to a fast start, with Paulo Dybala scoring after only three minutes, but Hamed Traore quickly levelled the score.
After the break, the Bianconeri were denied twice by the woodwork, with Matthijs de Ligt wasting a wonderful opportunity, but Vlahovic fortuitously blasted past Gianluca Pegolo via a huge deflection off Ruan with two minutes left to send Juve through.
In one of the Coppa quarter-finals, Massimiliano Allegri’s squad will meet Fiorentina.
Fiorentina overcame Atalanta 3-2 in the first quarter-final of the day and will face Juventus in a two-legged encounter in March and April, with the talented Vlahovic, who moved from Fiorentina to Juventus last month, poised to play against his old employers and teammates.
