January 22, (THEWILL) – Juventus claimed an important 3-0 victory away to Lecce on Sunday, to move to the top of the Serie A table. Despite dominating much of the first half, the visitors were frustrated by a stubborn Lecce defence and struggled to create clear chances. However, a second-half brace from in-form striker Dusan Vlahovic and a late header from Gleison Bremer sealed an ultimately comfortable win for Juventus, lifting them above previous league leaders Inter Milan.
The first half saw few opportunities for either side. Vlahovic went close early on before Lecce threatened through Nikola Krstovic. Further chances came and went for Filip Kostic and Krstovic again before the sides went in goalless at the break.
The second half brought more promise for Juventus in attack. Weston McKennie saw a header saved before Vlahovic missed a diving header. The Serbian striker made amends on the hour mark however, volleying Andrea Cambiaso’s cross into the ground and past goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone.
Vlahovic grabbed his second in the 68th minute, tapping in at the back post from McKennie’s header across goal following a cross from Kostic. The points secured Juventus added gloss to the scoreline late on when defender Bremer powerfully headed home a Samuel Iling-Junior free kick.
The 3-0 win, Juve’s 16th league victory this term, moves them a point clear of Inter at the Serie A summit as the title race intensifies. Vlahovic’s brace takes his impressive goal tally to 11 for the campaign so far, continuing his hot streak.
