Juve Leave It Late To Break Resolute Salernitana Via Vlahovic’s Goal

January 07, (THEWILL) – Juventus extended their unbeaten run across all competitions to 15 matches as Dusan Vlahovic’s late bullet header secured a hard-fought 2-1 Serie A win over 10-man strugglers US Salernitana on Sunday.

The two sides had faced each other just three days ago in the Coppa Italia, with Juve recording a 6-1 thrashing in Turin despite falling behind in the first minute. However, Salernitana put up much more of a fight on home soil this time, taking a 39th-minute lead through Giulio Maggiore before having the midfielder sent off early in the second half.

Still, Juve struggled to break their hosts down until Arkadiusz Milik and Samuel Iling-Junior were introduced. The latter equalised with 15 minutes remaining, but rather than sit back, Salernitana continued to threaten.

Ultimately though, Dusan Vlahovic powered home a 91st minute winner to secure the points for Massimiliano Allegri’s side in a score that leaves Salernitana bottom of Serie A heading into next weekend’s Campania derby at league defenders SSC Napoli.

As for Juventus, they remain second and now prepare to host Frosinone in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals on Thursday, ahead of welcoming Sassuolo in their next league fixture.
