May 6, (THEWILL)- A high-stakes Serie A clash between top-four contenders AS Roma and Juventus played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at the Stadio Olimpico. The stalemate leaves the Old Lady winless in five matches across all competitions.
Roma made five changes following their UEFA Europa League semi-final first-leg defeat, including a complete overhaul of their backline. A defensive lapse nearly gifted Juventus an early lead when Timothy Weah clattered into Mile Svilar after a wayward backpass. The Bianconeri continued to apply intense pressure, with Federico Chiesa’s trickery creating a golden chance for Dušan Vlahović, who narrowly missed the target.
Despite defensive frailties, Roma’s full-backs combined for a superb chance, but Rasmus Kristensen’s header struck the woodwork. The Giallorossi opened the scoring on 15 minutes when Romelu Lukaku pounced on a loose ball in the box. Chiesa’s creativity helped Juventus equalise before halftime, with Gleison Bremer’s towering header levelling the game.
The second half saw chances for both sides, with Chiesa striking the post and Lorenzo Pellegrini’s effort denied by a brilliant Wojciech Szczęsny save. Tempers flared when Weah’s challenge on Leandro Paredes sparked protests for a second booking, but the referee did not issue a card.
The draw keeps Roma in fifth, with sixth-placed Atalanta holding two games in hand, while Juventus remain third and within reach of securing UEFA Champions League qualification for next season.
