FEBRUARY 21, (THEWILL) – AC Milan striker, Luka Jovic, has been handed a two-match ban by the Serie A after an on-field altercation during his side’s shock 4-2 defeat at Monza over the weekend, it was announced on Tuesday.

The Serbia international, who joined the Rossoneri last summer from Real Madrid, was dismissed in the early stages of the second half after footage showed him striking opposition defender, Armando Izzo, in the face. At the time Milan were two goals behind.

Despite being a man down, Milan showed spirit to claw the score back to 2-2 in the dying minutes, thanks to goals from Olivier Giroud and Christian Pulisic. However, their heroic comeback was in vain as late strikes from Warren Bondo and Lorenzo Colombo secured the three points for the hosts.

Jovic will now miss crucial upcoming matches against top four rivals Atalanta and Lazio, as Milan try to secure UEFA Champions League qualification for next season.

In other disciplinary action, Lazio sporting director, Mariano Fabiani, has been hit with a one-month ban for confronting officials in an aggressive manner during his side’s 2-1 loss at Bologna on Sunday. Serie A said that at half-time, Fabiani entered the field and remonstrated with referees in a threatening way, later continuing his protests in the tunnel area.
