October 23, (THEWILL) – Former world heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua, has revealed plans for a “mega card” night featuring two huge boxing clashes – Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight crown and Joshua’s own bout with Deontay Wilder.
Speaking on Sunday, Joshua said contracts had already been signed for Fury and Usyk to fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, though no date had yet been fixed. He suggested the touted Fury-Usyk bout was unlikely before April 2023 due to Fury’s upcoming fight with Francis Ngannou in late October.
Joshua, twice beaten by Usyk, said he himself plans to return to the ring in December, likely in London, against a non-championship opponent. Discussions are also underway for him to later face fellow ex-champ, Wilder, on the same Saudi ‘mega card’ as Fury-Usyk.
“They want to put Usyk-Fury, Joshua-Wilder on the same night,” Joshua revealed. He said Saudi backers were keen on the dual-headliner, which would maximise revenue, though preparations mean the card may not happen until April 2023.
Both Joshua and Wilder are seeking redemption after losing their world titles. Victory for either man would put them back in contention for another shot at the heavyweight summit.
