SAN FRANCISCO, May 29, (THEWILL) – Former New Media Aide to President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr Reno Omokri has caused a stir over his criticism of the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for its alleged failure to handle the #TomatoEbola scourge proactively like his boss, Jonathan did during the deadly killer Ebola diseases era.

Omokri, in his Twitter handle @renoomokri in a series of tweet to assess Buhari’s first year in office tweeted; “If this admin had handled the #TomatoEbola the way the previous ‘govt’ handled the real #ebola, we would not be buying 4 tomato for ₦500.”

However, in response to his tweet, rather than receiving much accolade as expected Omokri appears to be getting more barrage of knocks in return.

One respondent, @pelulomo lampooned Omokri of turning blind eyes to alleged awful things of last administration because he was benefiting. “@renoomokri Please do not talk as if most of us have dementia. The previous government was awful. You were blind to this ‘bcos’ u were chopping.”

@MohammedAdams14 who also mentioned @benmurraybruce said that what Omokri was referring to as failure of Buhari’s administration was actually a trace of corrupt tendency of past administration. “@renoomokri @benmurraybruce that is part of the signature of sorrow ur corrupt hero left behind…. #MBuhari is trying to clean the mess.”

But Omokri was not a loner in the tweet debate that ensued from his lead post.

@Gerryubz however criticised the government saying it was callous for the government to fail to reach out to its neighbours in emergency like this rather than allowing price to shore up “@renoomokri A govt that does not have the foresight to shore up the supply of tomato from Neighbours in such emergency need is callous.”

@Gerryubz further tweeted; “@renoomokri They allowed us to buy at N100 per bulb thereby impoverishing the masses the more. They don’t care how we survive.”

@IsiakaSteven reacted by saying that President Buhari has abandoned other aspect of the economy trying to puncture every approach of last administration without coming out with his own alternative policies. “@renoomokri as far Buhari is concern every approach of d previous admin is corrupt, even when he has no any alternative. #TomatoEbola #ebola.”

THEWILL recalls that the pest, Tuta absoluta, popularly known as ‘Tomato Ebola’ which is currently ravaging tomato farmlands in the country has forced the price of tomato to rise from about $10.40 three months ago to skyrocketed 400 percent to a staggering $40, industry sources said.

The Minister for Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh had recently confirmed that the pest has spread to at least six states and poses a threat to national food security.

Ogbeh warned that the moth can also attack pepper and potato plants adding that the Federal Government had started consulting with states and experts in other to fashion out measures to tackle the pest.
