May 29, (THEWILL) – The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called on opposition leaders, including Labour Party’s Peter Obi, Peoples Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar as well as Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party to join hands with President Bola Tinubu in transforming Nigeria.

Ohanaeze, in a statement by its Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, titled, “Ohanaeze gives verdict of Tinubu’s one year as better than Buhari’s years in office, declares Umahi as the best-performing minister, followed by Wike, Tunji-Ojo, and Ononuga”, said the first year of Tinubu is in stark contrast to the wasteful eight years under the previous administration headed by Buhari.

According to him, during Buhari’s tenure, the Southeast region was subjected to deliberate economic suppression and marginalisation, which targeted Igbo industrialists and investors while promoting strife through harmful policies such as open grazing and RUGA land-grabbing initiatives.

“The Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, OHANAEZE NDIGBO, after careful and meticulous consideration, hereby declares Senator Dave Umahi, Minister of Works, as the best performing Minister in the Federal Executive Council.

“He is closely followed by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Interior, Tunji-Ojo, and the exceptional presidential aide, Bayo Ononuga. These esteemed individuals are regarded as the pillars of support for President Tinubu’s administration.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo unequivocally asserts that the first year of President Bola Tinubu’s Presidency, as viewed from the Igbo perspective and experience, has been marked by progress, development, and a genuine commitment to overcoming challenges. This stands in stark contrast to the wasteful eight years under the previous administration headed by former president Buhari.

“During Buhari’s tenure, the Southeast region was subjected to deliberate economic suppression and marginalisation, which targeted Igbo industrialists and investors while promoting strife through harmful policies such as open grazing and RUGA land-grabbing initiatives. This led to heightened insecurity and economic neglect, leaving the Igbo nation disenfranchised and marginalised.

“In contrast, the current administration under President Tinubu has shown remarkable political will and determination to address these challenges. The ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation of major federal expressways in the Southeast, spearheaded by Senator Dave Umahi, has brought about increased economic activity and infrastructure development, changing the narrative of neglect and disfavour towards the region.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo commends Senator Dave Umahi for his exemplary performance as Minister of Works, which has significantly contributed to the acceptance and recognition of the APC in the Southeast. His diligence, dedication, innovative ideas, and unwavering commitment to his duties have not gone unnoticed, and his efforts have brought about a positive change in the region.

“Barr. Nyesom Wike’s leadership as the FCT Minister has been notable for his visionary governance and pragmatic programmes, while Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has demonstrated a strong commitment to national advancement through his reformative efforts in the passport sector. Additionally, Bayo Ononuga’s dedication as a Senior Presidential Media Aide has been instrumental in articulating President Tinubu’s vision for national rejuvenation.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo calls on President Tinubu to cease the unnecessary demolition of Igbo properties in Lagos, release Nnamdi Kanu, and advocate for trade policies that encourage friendly relations and sound economic growth. The reopening of the Calabar Seaport is also urged, as it holds immense potential for boosting economic activity, especially in conjunction with the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Super Highway.

“In conclusion, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, commends President Tinubu as Nigerians and Ndigbo mark the first year of his administration. Ohanaeze Ndigbo pledges to continue its partnership with the government and calls on opposition leaders such as Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and others to unite in the effort to rebuild Nigeria from the destruction wrought under the previous administration,” he said.
