December 31, (THEWILL) – Fulham pulled off an impressive comeback victory against Arsenal on Sunday, winning 2-1 after going down early to Bukayo Saka’s 5th minute goal.
The match saw a reversal of fortunes in the second half, with Fulham equalising through Raul Jimenez in the 30th minute before Bobby De Cordova-Reid put the hosts ahead in the 59th minute.
The game was a gripping contest between the high-flying Gunners and a Fulham side looking to bounce back from three straight defeats. Arsenal came flying out of the gates, taking the lead courtesy of a Gabriel Martinelli chance that was parried by keeper, Bernd Leno, but finished neatly by Saka.
Fulham responded well though, catching Arsenal on the counter attack with Tom Cairney setting up Jimenez for a timely equaliser. The second half saw Fulham, with Nigerians, Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey, grow into the game and eventually claim the lead through De Cordova-Reid after Willian’s corner caused chaos in the Arsenal box.
It was a vital win for the Cottagers, snapping their losing run and lifting them up to 13th in the EPL on 24 points. ForArsenal, it capped off a disappointing end to 2023 after a stellar first half of the season.
