November 24, (THEWILL) – Janet Leigh Holden, wife of Canadian-American actor, Eric McCormack, has filed for divorce from the actor after being married for over 26 years.
The 60-year-old star, best known for his role as Will on the NBC sitcom ‘Will and Grace,’ was hit by the filing on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.
Legal documents cite ”irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split, with no specified date of separation.
Janet is seeking spousal support and aims to terminate the court’s ability to award Eric spousal support. Notably, the couple does not share minor children, as their only son, Finnigan Holden McCormack, is 21 years old.
Eric and Janet’s love story began on the set of ‘Lonesome Dove,’ where she served as an assistant director. Recalling their initial encounter in 2007, Eric mentioned he was “just coming out of a relationship and not to be trusted.” Despite Janet admitting she “wasn’t too keen” on him initially, Eric’s persistence and the allure of her wearing jeans and driving a pickup truck won her over.
The couple kept their romance under wraps due to Janet’s job, adding an element of “mystery and danger” to their relationship, as Eric revealed in a 1998 interview. In 1995, they went public with their love and exchanged vows two years later, getting married on August 3, 1997 and having their son in July 2002.
