December 10, (THEWILL) – Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed injury blows to Reece James, Robert Sanchez, and Marc Cucurella after the Blues’ 2-0 defeat away at Everton. The latest injuries deepen the injury crisis at Stamford Bridge, with the squad now missing over 10 first-team players.
Captain James was the first forced off in the defeat, hobbling out of the match in the first half with a concerning hamstring issue. Pochettino confirmed James will undergo assessments in the coming days but believes the injury appears serious, calling it a “disappointing” blow to lose a “really important” player.
Goalkeeper Sanchez was also substituted in the second half after aggravating a pre-existing knee problem initially picked up at Manchester United last weekend. Cucurella followed soon after with a twisted ankle that saw him replaced in the final 10 minutes.
The Blues have been plagued by fitness issues in recent months, including long-term absentees Wesley Fofana, Romeo Lavia, Christopher Nkunku and Ben Chilwell. Pochettino admitted dealing with constant injuries has been challenging for his “young team” aiming to build consistency this campaign.
Chelsea face a nervous wait to determine the extent of these latest knocks. Further updates are expected once the players undergo medical scans. The depleted Blues next host Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, seeking to bounce back from consecutive English Premier League losses.
