SAN FRANCISCO, August 27, (THEWILL) – Former Emir of Kano, His Highness Muhammad Sanusi II, said he can’t be a member of any political party because he is an Amir of the people who has friends and followers across all political parties as such he cannot be said to be a politician.

The 14th Emir of Kano stated this during his visit to Kaduna in reaction to those calling on him to contest in 2023.

The deposed Emir said he is not a politician but an Emir who has friends and followers across all political parties and as such, “I can’t be a member of any political party. I have always said that I have no interest in contesting elections and public service is not limited to elective offices. My advice to you all is to identify politicians who are suitable for the offices they seek and support the right candidate rather than parties, and also to stop focusing on one office. Not even the president can make a difference unless he has the support of legislators, Governors, LG chairmen etc”.

“Finally even among you those who are qualified should present themselves for election and serve the people rather than be looking for those of us in the older generation to lead you. It is time for the young ones to step up”, he added.
