November 05, (THEWILL) – Reims picked up a vital 1-0 away victory against Nantes on Sunday, thanks to a late goal from Junya Ito.
In a largely uneventful first half, both sides struggled to create clear chances. Nantes looked the more threatening side early on, but wayward finishing meant they failed to capitalise on their possession.
The game remained goalless until the 74th minute when substitute Mohamed Daramy delivered an inch-perfect cross for Ito to tap home from close range. The goal came against the run of play but proved decisive as Reims held on for the final 20 minutes plus injury time.
Nantes Moses Simon could only manage a long range shot that went wide. The hosts nearly drew level in the 89th minute but Matthis Abline’s header was kept out by an excellent save from Reims keeper Yehvann Diouf. Nantes continued to press for an equaliser but were unable to break down an organised Reims defence.
The result sees Reims climb to fourth as they continue to impress while Nantes are in 8th place in the Ligue 1 standings after 11 matches. This is their second straight loss after back-to-back wins last month. Nantes’ struggles in front of goal are becoming a real concern as they slip towards mid table.
