Issa Hayatou Voted Out As CAF President After 29 Years In Power

BEVERLY HILLS, March 16, (THEWILL) – President of the Madagascar Football Federation, Ahmad Ahmad, has defeated Issa Hayatou of Cameroon to emerge the new President of the Confederation of African Football, CAF.

In an election which was held at CAF’s 39th General Assembly in Addis Ababa, Ahmad defeated Hayatou polling 34 votes to the 20 votes garnered by the 70-year-old.

Hayatou had been in charge of the federation since 1988 when he replaced Abdel Halim Mohammad and went on to stay in office for 29 years and five terms as President of CAF.
