April 26, (THEWILL) – Following the end of his contract at Real Madrid, Isco has reached an agreement to join Real Betis this summer.
The 30-year-old has spent nine seasons with Los Blancos, making 351 appearances in all competitions, but has recently dropped down the pecking order under Carlo Ancelotti’s squad selection.
Indeed, Isco has only appeared 15 times this season and is reaching the end of his contract with Real Madrid, who are willing to let him leave for free and he is on his way to Real Betis.
He has committed to a two-year deal with the option of a third at the Estadio Benito Villamarin. There, he will reunite with Manuel Pellegrini, with whom he worked at Malaga in the early 2010s, reaching the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals in their final season at La Rosaleda.
Isco is expected to replace Nabil Fekir in the team, with the Betis board expecting big offers for the Frenchman, though this was their stance last summer and no suitable bid arrived.
Isco is set to earn at least €20 million from this Betis contract, with incentives for Champions League qualification helping to make it the club’s most expensive deal ever.
Los Verdiblancos won the Copa del Rey at the weekend, only the club’s fourth major trophy and the first since 2005, and are still in with a chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season, sitting fifth in La Liga and four points outside the top four with four games remaining.
