December 10, (THEWILL) – Inter Milan showed their Serie A title credentials with an utterly dominant 4-0 home victory over Udinese on Saturday evening. Second half goals from Federico Dimarco and Marcus Thuram added to Hakan Calhanoglu’s first half penalty, before Lautaro Martinez rounded off the scoring late on.
The emphatic result takes Simone Inzaghi’s side back to the top of the Serie A table, two points ahead of second placed Juventus. It was a 12th win from 15 league matches this season for the Nerazzuri, highlighting their status as likely Scudetto challengers.
After early Inter pressure, the deadlock was broken on 37 minutes when Nehuen Perez fouled Martinez in the area. Calhanoglu made no mistake from the resulting penalty, continuing his recent goalscoring form. Dimarco and Thuram then both netted in quick succession before half time to put the game beyond doubt.
Despite a slight drop in intensity after the break, Inter remained firmly on top and secured the points when Martinez brilliantly dispossessed an opponent before firing home from 20 yards on 84 minutes. His 14th league goal of the campaign keeps the Argentine top of the goalscoring charts.
For Udinese, it was a chastening defeat after arriving at the San Siro on the back of a 3-3 draw against Hallas Verona last weekend. However injuries in defence proved critical, whilst chances to get back in the game were spurned. The visitors now sit 16th in Serie A, one point above the relegation places.
