Inter Milan Hold Off Verona To Strengthen Top-Four Standing

January 15, (THEWILL) – Inter Milan secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Hellas Verona at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium on Tuesday night, solidifying their position in the top-four race in the Serie A.

Lautaro Martinez scored the only goal of the match just three minutes in, but the rest of the match was a disappointment for fans in attendance.

Despite Inter’s quick start, the match was a struggle for both sides to create meaningful chances. Verona, who are currently fighting for survival in the league, failed to take risks and put pressure on the home side. This allowed Inter to hold onto their lead with ease, but they too were unable to impress on the offensive end.

Simone Inzaghi’s cautious approach after taking the early lead can be understood, but Verona’s lack of ambition was baffling. This was a return to their old ways after a promising 2-0 victory over Cremonese in their previous match.

Although Inter’s performance may not have been worthy of praise, the result is a valuable one for the Nerazzurri. The win temporarily puts them six points clear of fifth-placed Lazio in the league table. While there is a Milan derby in the Super Cup on Wednesday, Verona’s next game is against Lecce on Saturday.
