October 15, (THEWILL) – Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana’s shaky start at Old Trafford has led to speculation that the Cameroonian could make an early return to Inter Milan.
Onana, who joined United in a £50 million deal this summer, has made several high-profile errors in his first few months at the club. This has prompted questions over whether he is the right long-term replacement for David de Gea.
Inter Chief Executive, Giuseppe Marotta, refused to rule out re-signing Onana in the future. He stated: “I can’t predict the future, but in football, anything can happen. It was a great chapter for Onana at Inter and for us too.”
The Nerazzurri cleverly signed Onana on a free transfer from Ajax in 2022. They then sold him to United for a hefty profit, which enabled Inter to fund new signings like Yann Sommer and Benjamin Pavard.
Onana’s shaky form has mirrored United’s poor start under Erik ten Hag this season. Club legend Peter Schmeichel has even offered advice on how the 27-year-old can move past his errors. Still, speculation over a quick return to Inter continues to build.
