SAN FRANCISCO, March 19, (THEWILL) – President Goodluck Jonathan said on Thursday in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, that the Federal Government would not concede any part of the country to Boko Haram insurgents.
Addressing a Northeast Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rally in the Yobe capital, as part of his presidential campaign, the president announced to the admiration of his supporters that the days of the insurgents were numbered.
According to the President, “As I speak, I am so happy to announce that Yobe has been freed of Boko Haram as all territories earlier under the control of the sect members have been recaptured by our able troops and we will henceforth resist any attempt by the sect members or any group to take control of any territory.”
He however lamented that “It is unfortunate that our brothers and sisters have turned mad against us and have left us with these sad memories.”
President Jonathan said he was committed to improving the lives of the people of the area despite the activities of the insurgents. He listed areas of intervention in the state to include; the introduction of the great green world and other efforts in fighting desert encroachment that will create enabling environment to farmers and pastoralists in the state and beyond.
He also promised to set up a federal university in the state to bring university education close to the people.
He therefore called on the people of the state to vote massively for the PDP, saying the party will consolidate on the gains of democracy thereby creating enabling environment for farmers, civil servants and businessmen alike.
Also speaking at the rally, Vice president Namadi Sambo called on the people of the Northeast to vote for PDP, assuring that as the war against the insurgency is gradually running to an end, rail transportation will be extended to Yobe and Maiduguri following the recent extension of rail services to Gombe.
Expressing his gratitude to President Jonathan for the visit to the state, the PDP governorship candidate in the state, Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri, promised to deliver the state to PDP in the rescheduled general elections.
