May 9, (THEWILL)- State Directors of State Security Service in the North-West, on Thursday, converged on Kano for their 14th Quarterly Conference to deliberate on strategies to combat emerging security challenges facing the region and the nation.

The convener of the event and the DSS Director in Kano State, Alhassan Muhammad, said the conference was the initiative of the Director General of the State Security Service, Yusuf Magaji Bichi.

Muhammad said the conference was intended to, among other things, facilitate operational and intelligence-sharing synergy among State DSS Directors across the geo-political zones in the country.

“It, therefore, serves as a platform for them to come together to exchange knowledge, share insights and explore innovative solutions to addressing the myriad of security challenges prevalent in the zone,” he said.

In today’s rapidly evolving world, he said, security concerns had become “increasingly complex and multifaceted, from cybersecurity threats to physical security challenges, from terrorism to armed banditry, from farmers/herders’ clashes to youth restiveness, environmental tensions, intra/inter political party disputes.”

“The security landscape is constantly evolving, presenting new and unprecedented challenges to security agencies, the executive, legislators, judiciary and societies across the country.

“Thus, this conference has curated a comprehensive programme that features thought-provoking keynote presentations, interactive discussions and networking opportunities designed to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among SDS from various States,” he said.

The Director also said that the conference would witness robust sharing of operational ideas, peer review of existing security containment measures, as well review of tactical and strategic security operations and make recommendations to the higher authorities.

In his remarks, Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, urged security agencies to fish out those behind the security challenges facing the country to mitigate their impact and bring total peace to the citizens.

“I challenge you to use intelligence data gathering to locate the whereabouts of those perpetrating the crimes, be they politicians, traditional leaders, religious or business community. Do more to unravel those sponsoring and conducting attacks on innocent lives for the country to be peaceful,” Yusuf said.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Usaini Gumel, in his speech, commended Governor Yusuf for giving the required support to security agencies for the maintenance of peace and stability in the state.
